Service FAQ

Should I consider using synthetic motor oil in my vehicle?

We only use synthetic oil at Freeman Motor Company. Synthetic motor oils are the best choice for technologically advanced, high output engines, especially vehicles with turbocharged or supercharged engines.Synthetic oils are also good for vehicles that are used for towing (especially during hot weather) and vehicles that operate in extremely cold or hot climates. Although more expensive than mineral-based oils, synthetic motor oils can improve fuel economy and provide longer intervals between changes.

How often should I rotate my tires?

Your tires should be rotated approximately every oil change, or every 5000 miles. Neglecting to rotate tires is a major cause of premature or uneven tire wear.

Is it necessary to replace my timing belt at the recommended interval?

Yes. The failure of a timing belt in many cars can result in major engine damage. The cost of repairing an engine with a broken timing belt is much greater than the cost of a timing belt replacement.

I have a belt making a very loud squeal on my car. What should I do?

The belt system in your car helps such things as your alternator and air conditioning compressor to operate correctly. When a belt breaks they can cause costly damage. To avoid this, inspect them regularly for wear. If they are showing signs, towing may be recommended so call our Service Advisors for further recommendations.

What does it mean if my check engine or service engine soon light comes on?

There are many sensors and computerized components that manage your vehicle’s engine performance and emissions. When one of these fails, the “check engine” light is illuminated. Although your car may seem to run fine, it is important to have the issue addressed immediately to prevent long-term problems.

When should I replace my car’s fuel filter?

To help ensure dependable, trouble-free performance, replace your car’s fuel filter approximately every 30,000 miles or as recommended in your vehicle owner’s manual.

Can I use an independent repair shop, like Freeman Motor Company, when my vehicle is still covered under factory warranty?

Yes. Freeman Motor Company Service Center performs factory recommended service intervals, oil changes, brakes and other maintenance work, which in no way will void the vehicle’s manufacturer warranty.

Do you accept extended / aftermarket warranties?

Yes. We will work with you and your warranty company to make certain all needed services and repairs are done. Please have your service contract available so we are able to promptly file a claim and begin repairs.

Can you put the machine/computer on my vehicle and find out what’s wrong with it?

We use the most current factory computers, scanners and scopes to help diagnose issues affecting your vehicle. These machines output data that helps our certified technicians figure out what repair work needs to be performed on your vehicle. The information the machines provide only offer clues to what may be wrong. It is only the expert mechanic who will be able to interpret this data, and along with their own analysis of your vehicle, provide you with a proper diagnosis of what needs to be done.Using both the scanner technology along with our factory trained technicians provides you with the most accurate assessment of your vehicle’s needs which results in the best and most appropriate care for your car at the most cost-effective rate.

How often should I change my oil?

For regular oil changes it is advisable to change the oil every 3,000 miles. For synthetic oil changes it is advisable to change the oil every 5,000 miles. Be aware that some manufacturers recommend synthetic oil changes at 10,000 miles, however, we always recommend performing this service a little sooner to ensure your vehicle is protected. *Newer, European vehicles are equipped with a maintenance indicator light which will come on when the oil change is due.Generally speaking, the more often you change your oil, the healthier your vehicle will be. Factory recommendations are typically requirements to adhere with warranty regulations and are not always reflective of what is the optimal care for your vehicle. Failing to change your vehicle’s oil often enough can result in sludge, which can cause serious and costly engine problems.

What is the difference between the check engine light and the service engine soon light?

There is no difference, they are both the same. This light is for the on board diagnostic system. If the light is on then the vehicle’s computer has detected a problem and the light is warning you to have your vehicle checked out by a service professional.

Can I bring my own parts?

No. For European vehicles we only use factory original parts. We offer a warranty on both parts and labor, please ask our service advisors for details. If we use your parts we are unable to guarantee the repair.

Do you require appointments?

Yes, we do. If you have an emergency or last minute issue, please give us a call and we will try to accommodate you.

Can I wait for my repair?

Yes. However, if it is a time consuming repair, we recommend you to drop your vehicle off and we can provide you a shuttle ride to your home or work within a 15 mile radius. If it is a simple service such as an oil change or tire rotation, you are welcome to wait in our waiting room. To make your wait more comfortable, we provide complimentary drinks and snacks, have free Wi-fi and a flat screen television to view your favorite shows.

Do you have a late-night or early-bird drop-off?

Yes, we do. Please call us for details.

What do you charge?

We use a standardized "flat rate" for every repair. This ensures that you don’t pay too much if the repairs take longer than expected due to parts availability, broken fasteners, etc. In a traditional "pay by the hour" shop, customers have to foot the additional bill for these types of delays that are out of your control. We feel our "flat rate" is more fair to our customers.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We have financing available and accept all major credit cards, checks and cash.

Is your shop insured?

Yes, our shop is insured by an automotive specific insurance agency.

Do you provide towing?

Yes. We can arrange for your vehicle to be towed in. Just call us and we will help out.

Can you give me an estimate over the phone?

Providing a quote over the phone is actually a disservice to you. The problem has to be diagnosed in person before it can be estimated. This is virtually impossible to do over the phone. Even a common brake job may have many variables that we won’t know without inspecting the brakes. We are always be happy to put your vehicle on a lift for a free visual check.
