Properly secure the car seat

One of the best precautions you can take is ensuring that the child’s car seat is completely secured. You should carefully follow the instructions and have an expert like a transportation safety professional double-check it. There are child car seat inspection stations to aid drivers.

Check for any recalls

Recalls more often than you may realize. Check for any recalls from time to time so you can be reassured you have the best car seat available for your child.

Avoid distracted driving

There are so many features in vehicles now that assist drivers from looking down at their phones while driving. Put your phone on do not disturb mode so you are not tempted to look at it. Besides keeping all occupants in your vehicle safe, by avoiding using your phone while driving, you won’t teach the kids bad driving habits.

Don’t leave your kids in the car

One of the top ways children die is from heatstroke from staying in a vehicle for too long. Most of these are from parents and caretakers who accidentally forgot the child in the back seat. As a way to avoid this, keep a toy in the front seat to remind yourself or put your purse or wallet in the back to force yourself to look.
